On 9 July 2021, the European Commission (in collaboration with Collectif 50/50) launched an awareness campaign with the objective of fostering gender diversity and inclusion in the film and news media industries, with the participation of Věra Jourová – Vice-President of the European Commission for Values and Transparency.

Under the title ‘CharactHer’ and envisioned in the framework of the Media and Audiovisual Action Plan, the campaign will contribute to empowering all European talents, both in front and behind the camera, with a particular focus on women.

This new initiative was launched at the Marché du film du Festival de Cannes where the concept, goals and potential reach of the campaign were explained.
