Gender Five Plus warmly congratulates the European Women’s Lobby (EWL) on the occasion of its 35th anniversary. As the largest umbrella organisation of women’s associations in Europe, the EWL has played a pivotal role in advancing women’s rights and gender equality across the continent.

This milestone is not only a celebration of the past but a powerful moment to reflect on the feminist struggles and achievements that have shaped Europe’s gender landscape—and to look boldly to the future.

We are especially proud to highlight the remarkable contribution of Barbara Helfferich, G5+ Vice-President, who served as the first Secretary General of the EWL. Barbara’s leadership helped lay the foundation for what has become a vibrant and influential network championing the rights of all women in Europe. At the anniversary event, she will deliver the keynote speech, honouring the history and continued relevance of the feminist movement.

We also warmly acknowledge Mary Collins, current Secretary General of the EWL and an active member of G5+, for her continued leadership and dedication.

The celebratory event will take place on:

📅 6 June 2025
🕓 16:00 – 19:00 CET
📍 Hôtel de Ville, Grand Place, 1000 Brussels

The programme will include high-level panels, an intergenerational dialogue, and a reception celebrating feminist culture, featuring singer Mary-Ann Struthers.

We encourage our members and allies to attend and participate in this landmark occasion. Here’s to 35 years of the EWL—and to many more years of feminist solidarity and action!
