Gender Five Plus welcomes the latest policy brief from the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE), which calls for stronger alignment between the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda and the lived realities of migrant and displaced women in the EU.

The brief highlights a critical gap: while all EU Member States are bound by WPS commitments, most national action plans fail to meaningfully address the gender-based violence that women and girls face throughout their migration journeys—from conflict zones, through transit, and within EU borders.

🔍 Key takeaways from the brief include:

  • GBV against migrant and displaced women must be recognised as a WPS issue, not just a migration or humanitarian concern.
  • National Action Plans should explicitly include actions that protect and empower women on the move.
  • Governments must ensure cross-sectoral cooperation between migration, gender equality, and peace and security actors.

At G5+, we fully support these recommendations and urge EU Member States to bridge the gap between gender equality frameworks and migration policy. A feminist peace and security agenda must reflect the intersecting realities of all women—including those displaced by war, poverty, and persecution.
